Most networking systematically violates trust.  It’s usually about spraying as many words onto as many people as humanly possible in shortest amount of time and then seeing who can get rid of the most business cards in a single session. Everyone in attendance asks you “what do you do” not because they actually care but in hope that you ask the same question so they can spew their pitch all over you. It’s an ugly site and you usually go home feeling verbally accosted and immediately throw out the pocket full of business cards pushed onto you by all the people who made themselves irrelevant to you in the process.
